History

The Santisimo Rosario Parish Church is located inside the campus of the oldest Catholic university in the country and in Asia, the University of Santo Tomas founded by the Dominicans. Up to now, Thomasians still refer to it as the UST Chapel. This has been a venue for different university religious activities such as the Misa de Apertura, a decades-old tradition of opening the school year and the delivery of the academic lecture known as the Discurso de Apertura. The parish was established in March 21, 1942 and was inaugurated by then Manila Archbishop Michael O’Doherty during the same year.

During the Second World War after the Sto. Domingo Church in Intramuros was greatly damaged, the image of Our Lady of Naval was temporarily transferred to the UST Chapel for safety. It was then transferred to the Convent of Sto. Domingo in Quezon City in 1954.

Architectural Design
